STR Co-Founder Bill Scheidemantel Passes Away at 95

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of STR co-founder Bill Scheidemantel. He was 95 years old. Bill, along with business partner Fred Treitler, founded Scheidemantel & Treitler, Ltd. in 1969, quickly hiring Ric Rinosa as job captain. By 1989, the firm, which was now named Scheidemantel, Treitler, & Rinosa, merged with Schlaeger – Taniguchi Architects, and Jan Taniguchi was named president. Bill retired in 1987 before the merger. To those who knew Bill, he was “a true gentleman,” and his architectural legacy will live on in many of STR’s first major projects, including the Kraft Fitness Center in Glenview and Lincolnway East High School. Colby, Mike, Jennifer, and the entire STR family send our sympathies to Bill’s loved ones. His obituary may be read here.
