Sarah E. Goode STEM Academy
The LEED-Platinum Sarah E. Goode STEM Academy is the latest high school to open as part of the Modern Schools Across Chicago Initiative to serve city students and their community.
The Urban Model High School prototype emphasizes flexibility and adaptability in an efficient and economic layout, with multiple-use space incorporated to maximize student and community use. A full-size gym provides space for high school regulation basketball, volleyball, and badminton courts, as well as two cross-courts for each sport and bleacher seating. This space also serves as an auditorium, with a retractable, padded theater-style seating system and a raised stage at one end. Lighting, theater rigging, an orchestra band shell, and acoustic systems create a fully operable performance space.
Additional recreation space is located near the gymnasium to house yoga, wrestling, weight lifting, dance, and swimming. A corridor in the arts wing acts as an art exhibition space for students and local artists.
