Thomas Middle School Wins 2018 Alan F. Bombick Design Award

The STR team, including construction manager Nicholas & Associates, and Arlington Heights SD 25 received the 2018 Alan F. Bombick Award for Excellence in Design for the new, 20,270-sf addition at Thomas Middle School. The award, which was created by the Village of Arlington Heights in honor of the late architect and founding member of the Village’s design committee, Alan F. Bombick, is given to one single-family project and one commercial project annually. STR principal Mike Henderson was presented with the award at the Village board meeting on Monday night.

About Thomas Middle School
As part of an ongoing effort to expand capacity at Arlington Heights SD 25 schools, STR designed an addition as well as various renovations at Thomas Middle School, which was completed in August of 2017. The addition includes a new 8,500-sf gym, which replaces a smaller existing gym. The new gym provides three P.E. stations to accommodate a growing student population. The existing gym, adjacent locker rooms, and former stage that was being used as a fitness room were converted to five classrooms, a new band room, and new music rooms.
